The Nature of Reading Comprehension 


Reading comprehension is degree to which we understand what we read. More over reading comprehension is not a process to select and predict structure of language but a process to pick and choose of available information according to (Kasbolah, 1993: 79) 

Reading comprehension involves getting meaning from the printed words to be fully comprehended, experience and the perception gained from reading are received or recalled with clear brood understanding the individual may said to comprehend something within a passages read when he can: 
  1. Recognize that which is experienced or perceived for what is actually is (obtained meaning) 
  2. Associate meaning both decorative and connotative from his own experiences to that set of impression 
  3. Recognize how the experience or his perception of it fits into contextual situations or surroundings. 
  4. Be aware of the relationship between the experiences or perception and other having similarities and the differences comprehension of anything that is read can highly to individual. Each individual have a different set of experience that affects his comprehension valve system, beliefs, attitudes differ widely. Therefore, comprehension of ideas and perception or experiences will vary as much. The some of the experience maybe shared by several people and understood differently by each one. Their comprehension of the experience will vary in degree nature.
